Poisoning weapons, especially bows...

Postby Atei on Wed May 19, 2004 8:10 pm

From the Changes Page:

Bugfix: All weapons should now be poisonable.

Drocket, I can poison my bow, which is great (thanks!) but does that mean that the arrows/bolts are also poisoned? Can we poison them separately?

I have noticed the bow says its poisoned but I'm not sure what good that does since I don't think the arrows are poisoned,it never says *poisoned* when you hit the mob with an arrow.

Hey, he said all weapons would be poisonable, he didn't say they would poison mobs when used :P
I'm sure if that Titan tried to eat your bow it would give him some serious indigestion :D

Hmmm, no wonder Kayn gave up the Assassin trade. He used chunky peanut butter instead of deadly poison. *sigh*

poisoning ranged wpns would be regrettable in game balance terms i think. not normally a proponent of game balance concerns but in this case it would be just too good and too easy to kill big nasties.

I would however be willing to test it just to be sure i was right about the game balance thing.

As you've found, just because the bow is poisoned doesn't make the arrows/bolts poisoned (actually, you really shouldn't be able to poison the bow anyway, since that doesn't make much sense...) I'm rather undecided about having poisoned ammo: it just seems like it could potentially open up a lot of cheesy hit-and-run tactics. Um, we'll see...

I still think the mob should get poisoned when it tries to "eat" your bow. Say an Ogre Lord kills you and happens to loot your poisoned bow off your body. The OL should immediately 'become sick' and a msg like *an Ogre Lord develops indigestion when it tries to chew on [insertfullnameofthebowhere]* should appear above the mob. Sweet revenge comes in many forms and shapes :)

hey as an archer i happen to think that's a good idea. this whole standing there and letting the monster hit you back thing is for the tinheads.
