Out smarted by a prof....

At Duke University, there were four students taking Organic Chemistry and who did pretty well on all of the quizzes and the midterms and labs, etc. such that had an "A" so far for the sememster. These four friends were so confident going into the final that the weekend before finals, they decided to go up to University of Virginia and party with some friends up there. So they did this and had a great time.

However, with their hangovers and everything, they overslept all day Sunday and didn't make it back to Duke until early Monday morning. Rather than taking the final then, they decided to find their professor after the final and explain to him why they missed it. They told him that they went up to UVA for the weekend, and had planned to come back in time to study, but unfortunately they had a flat tire on the way back and didn't have a spare and couldn't get help for a long time and so were late getting back to campus. The professor thought this over and then agreed that they could make up the final on the following day.

The guys were elated and relieved. So, they studied that night and went in the next day at the time that the professor had told them. He placed them in separate rooms and handed each of them a test booklet and told them to begin. They looked at the first problem, which was something simple about free radical formation and was worth 5 points. Cool, they thought, this is going to be easy. They did that problem and then turned the page. They were unprepared, however, for what they saw on the next page. It said:

(95 points) Which tire?

army experience coming back to help you with that one Azzo hehe?

Did you ever hear the one about the West Point leadership test? basically they take a 4th year cadet out to a field and confront him with a sgt and 6 guys with some equipment. the task at hand being to erect a flagpole in the minimal time and wasted motion. The only cadet who ever got a perfect mark on the exercise strode over to the sgt and asked "how many of these have you put up?" sgt replied "hundreds sir". "Sgt put up the flagpole" quoth the cadet who then returned to the jeep and spent the time chatting with the examiner and watching the process. some platoon lucked out big time when they drew that 2nd lt.

always wondered if it was actually true you know.

That one circulated when I was in, we made fun of them for their lack of thought. We had a butterbar assigned to our platoon to train with us, it lasted all of about 2 weeks before he was re-assigned. A lot of officers are MORONS!!, very few of them have the common sense a regular army enlisted man has. I wish they would make them serve a minimum of 4 yrs enlisted before they become officers.

there are a number of things about the US army that mystify me Azzo but making officers spend say 2 years as enlisted wanks would probably be a good idea.
the current drive to make the US army officer the best educated leader in the history of the world is somewhat peculiar notion at least to me. i can see this being more helpful in some branches and services but most of the combat arms would i think be better served by spending more time in the field than in the classroom.
