the male chest plate is usually just called plate.

Yeah, that definitely needs to be changed. The problem is that I'm not really sure what I should change it TO. Should female platemail actually be named 'female platemail'? Any opinions on this?

we do need a better name

How about platemail chest (for male plate) and platemail breastpiece (for female plate)? Basically it's saying the same thing but we would know the difference between them two.
I suppose there are other words we could use instead of "chest" like "cuirass" or "hauberk" but those are not very common, and it's unlikely they'd help most people differentiate between male and female chestpiece in any event.

How about platemail chest (for male plate) and platemail bustier (for female plate)?

Good words, Atei! But, how about reducing just a tiny bit more by removing the word "mail"?
plate chest
plate bustier

You may want to start a new thread for this. Back to the subject at hand, how about renaming plate gloves to platemail gauntless (since that is what they really are).

platemail and plate armour are different items. plate should have appreciably higher ar than platemail. at least until its so badly bashed about the joints seize and you make like a statue.
