Chess Tournament!

Ehran wrote:given the difficulty in getting a group of people together perhaps a less formal arrangement could be set up. get the admins to nail down a chess board upstairs at the bank and do a round robin sort of thing. could put down a grand a piece into a locked chest to play with the winner taking it all. it would be woddian to split the winnings tween several top players but since chess is a blood sport after all i think winner take all would be the way to go.

You know Ehran, that's a heckuva good idea.

Instead of putting everyone together, everyone who wants to play just needs to post here. Then, pairings will be announced and the players figure out between themselves how and where to meet to play. Winners go on, losers don't. Each match, the winner needs to post something like "I beat Ehran" and Ehran would have to post and agree. Hmmm, this sounds most promising. :D

If you want to play in the chess tournament, please post your name here. The first person who does that will be seeeded first, the second will be seeded second and so on.

All entries must be received by midnight EST Friday 3-19-03 (one week from this Friday). On Saturday the 20th, I will announce pairings.

Once the pairings are announced, matches must be completed within a week so that we can keep the tournament going.

Each participant must drop off an owned bag at either my Shoppe in SE Brit or at my home in Magincia (next to the Bank) with 5000 gold coins in it. However, please wait for the pairings to be announced before dropping off any gold, in case we don't get enough participants.

The overall chess champion gets it all.

Any questions, please post here. I know that the Haunt and the Bank both have "public" chess tables, so finding a place to play shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck, and get those entries in!

Is 5k enough? What does everyone think?

Let's do this: Of 5k, 15k and 50k, which do you think is the fair amount to enter this tournament? The amount with the most votes is the entry fee.

:D

I would vote 5k, so as not to exclude new players who may not be able to make money that quickly.

Oh, and I'm in - I'm curious to see how fast I get beaten.

Count me in for 5k. 15k for a tournament?? Geez, too rich for my blood. As it is, I'm going to have to come up with some money to enter this thing. But, regardless, I want in.

*bump*

Entries must be received by this Friday, March 19th. Please be sure to tell all your friends about the tournament (since not everyone reads the boards).

Also, the consensus seems to be 5k entry fee, so it will stay at 5k.

Actually the pairings won't be announced until Saturday. It sure would be nice to have at least one more player, to make things even. Anyone?
